BMO’s first day of business was November 3^rd 1817 – so we are celebrating 208 years in North America this November! Our history in Chicago goes 143 years as Harris Bank was founded in 1882. Before Canada was even a country and until 1942, we were unofficially the “Bank of Canda” – printing bank notes and minting coins for Canadian currency! In 1984 BMO bought Chicago’s Harris Bank and now known solely as BMO, we are the 8^th largest bank in North America with over 1,000 US branches in 32 states!
